I'm seriously considering getting paint protection film for my new daily driver, but one of the things that's been holding me back is the uncertainty about how long it will actually last before it starts to look tired and needs to be replaced, because I don't want to spend a significant amount of money on something that only gives me a couple of years of protection. I've heard wildly different estimates from different installers, some saying that good quality film should last five to seven years, while others claim ten years or more, but I'm not sure if those figures are based on ideal conditions or actual real-world use in our extreme environment. I've seen some older cars around with PPF that looks absolutely terrible, yellowed and cracked with dirt collecting along the edges, and I really don't want that to happen to my car after I've spent all that money. From what I've read, the lifespan depends on a combination of factors including the quality of the film, the quality of the installation, how well the car is maintained, and obviously how much sun exposure it gets, which is a big deal here where the UV index is off the charts for most of the year. I came across a piece that explained How long quality PPF lasts under the harsh UAE climate, and it gave me a realistic picture of what to expect, but I'd still like to hear from people who've actually had PPF on their cars for a few years and can tell me how it's held up. Has anyone here had a film that started yellowing or peeling after a couple of years, or conversely, has anyone had a film that's still looking great after five plus years? I'm particularly keen to know whether the self-healing properties degrade over time, and whether the hydrophobic coating wears off after a certain point. Any honest feedback from long-term PPF owners would be massively helpful because I need to know whether this is a worthwhile investment or something I'll have to replace sooner than I'd like.
